Fun Shape Tracing Activities

⭐ Shape I Spy
After finding all the shapes hidden in their shape tracing worksheets, pull up other similar images of farms, bakeries, and bedrooms and work with your child to spot shapes in those pictures. This game can extend to when you’re outdoors or running errands, keeping an eye out for the various shapes that exist in the world around us.
⭐ Shape Silhouette
Using dotted lines, create outlines of a few shapes on thicker paper, such as cardstock. Ask your child to trace the shapes you outlined and then name the shapes. Then have them cut the shapes out and tape them to a large piece of paper. Invite them to paint all around the shapes, filling the paper with color. Then, carefully remove the shapes you had taped to the paper. When the shapes are lifted, they leave behind their silhouettes, allowing children to see the shape as white space against a backdrop of color.
⭐ Shape Outlines
Use small objects from around your home, such as pieces of cereal, marshmallows, coins, or beads, to create outlines of all the shapes from the shape tracing worksheets. Take this activity a step further by “tracing” the outlines you made with string, creating a line around the shapes you outlined.
