Some of these letter E crafts and activities require the outline of a letter E. You can draw one yourself or find one in our free printable collection of letter E worksheets.
1. E is for Earth
This mess-free painting technique invites children to practice with the letter E sound and explore the shape and layout of the Earth. Find a free printout of Earth in our collection of Earth Day coloring pages.
Required Materials
- blue and green paint
- paper plate
- resealable plastic bag
- glue
How To
Create a paper plate Earth with this mess-free painting craft. Print and cut out the Earth and glue or tape it onto a paper plate. You could also try drawing the Earth freehand too.
Then, squirt blue and green paints onto the paper plate Earth, putting dollops of blue paint in sections that correspond with water and green paint in sections that correspond with land. Carefully insert the paper plate Earth (with paint dollops) into a plastic bag and seal it closed. Have your child use their fingers to spread out the blue and green paints, filling in the shapes of the Earth’s oceans and continents.
2. E is for Elephant
Entertain kids by turning the letter E into an adorable elephant. Use any color paper, but working with emerald green adds another E word to the activity!
Required Materials
- construction paper
- scissors
- glue
- googly eyes
- black marker
How To
Using scissors, trim out the letter E from construction paper, making the top part of the letter longer and in the shape of an elephant’s trunk. You can find a letter E to use as a template in our free printable Letter E worksheets.
Next, cut out ears and a tail from construction paper and glue them on to the E. Use a marker to add a smile and toe nails and glue on a googly eye to give your elephant some personality!
3. E is for Eggs
Kids will thoroughly enjoy this clever egg-themed E exercise!
Required Materials
- yellow and white paper
- scissors
- marker
- glue
How To
Draw outlines of boiled eggs and fried eggs onto a white sheet of paper. Then write upper and lowercase Es onto the center of each egg.
Trim circles out of yellow construction paper and write upper and lowercase Es on them. These will act as the eggs’ yolks. Have your child match the upper and lowercase Es on the egg yolks to the Es of the egg whites and glue them into place.
4. Letter E Salt Tracing
Lean into the letter E even more by swapping out the salt with Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.
Required Materials
- paper plates
- salt
- glue
- construction paper
How To
Cut out two large circles from colored construction paper, gluing one circle onto each paper plate. Pour salt into each plate to completely cover the colored paper.
Then, have you child use their finger or a popsicle stick to trace a lowercase letter E into the salt on one plate and an uppercase E onto the other plate. As your child traces the E, they’ll reveal the color under the salt, creating an opportunity to practice identifying colors as well. You can use sand for this activity too.
5. E is for Envelopes
This E-themed sorting activity helps children with motor skills, identifying the letter E, and practicing with color identification.
Required Materials
- several colors of paper
- envelopes
- marker
- scissors
How To
Start by gathering up several envelopes (you can even reuse envelopes you’ve gotten in the mail). Choose a few different colors of construction paper and cut them into smaller squares. Write a letter E onto the small squares of paper, alternating between upper and lowercase letters.
Glue one square of each color onto the envelopes, so each envelope has its own color featuring an uppercase or lowercase E. Next, have your child sort the squares of paper to match the color and the letter they see on each envelope. For example, blue squares of paper with an E will go into the envelope marked with a blue square of paper and an E.

6. Masked Letter E
Kids can practice with the letter E twice here–once when they create the shape with tape and a second time when they peel off the tape to reveal the E hidden beneath it.
Required Materials
- masking tape
- paint
- thick paper or card stock
How To
Apply masking tape in the shape of the letter E onto a piece of card stock or thick paper. Next, have your child paint over the
card stock with watercolors, painting right over their tape letter E. Once they finish painting, gently peel the tape off to reveal the hidden letter E!
Tip: Make sure to use tape that’s not too tacky or it may peel the paper off when you remove it. Be sure to peel the tape off before the paint dries.
7. Letter E Construction
Building the letter E is entertaining when done with multi-colored popsicle or craft sticks.
Required Materials
- paper or card stock
- popsicle or craft sticks
How To
Use colorful popsicle or craft sticks to build uppercase letter Es. If you only have plain craft sticks, add in the fun of painting or coloring them, asking your child to identify each color they use. Then, challenge your child to build as many letter Es with their craft sticks as possible. Count them up when they’re done to practice a bit of math.
8. E is for Eyeballs
Don’t have googly eyes? Just draw or paint the eyes instead.
Required Materials
- letter E template
- paper
- googly eyes
- glue
How To
Print out a letter E outline or just “eyeball” it (wink, wink) and draw a letter E freehand. Ask your child to fill in the letter E with as many eyeballs as possible, gluing on googly eyes or drawing them in.
Work with your child to count up all the eyeballs that they added into the letter E.
9. Letter E Coloring Page
This creative act of coloring provides another way for children to explore the letter E.
