What You’ll Need for Your Ghoulicious Treats

  • Fruits or Vegetables: Any will do. We used apples, strawberries, bell peppers, pears, and cantaloupe.
  • Marshmallows: For additional fun faces.
  • Peanut Butter: Great for sticking things together and adding flavor.
  • Icing: White and black for decorating.
  • Skewers: Perfect for making fun Halloween kabobs.
  • Almonds (Optional): To add jagged teeth for an extra spooky effect.

Instructions for Making Your Ghoulicious Snacks

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

Before you start, gather all of your ingredients and tools. Make sure everything is ready and laid out on a clean surface. This will make the process more fun and organized, especially if you’re working with young children.

Step 2: Slice and fill the apples.

Start by making an apple face. Cut off half of the apple so that it removes the core and allows the apple to sit flat on the plate. Then, cut a slit out of the middle of the other side of the apple to create a mouth.

Fill the mouth with peanut butter to make it look like it’s open and ready to eat! Use the icing to add eyes above the mouth, making your apple come to life with a creepy or silly face.

Step 3: Add more features.

Now it’s time to get creative! You can use strawberries as tongues sticking out of the apple’s mouth or add almonds as jagged teeth. Let your child’s imagination run wild as they design their ghoulish treats. This is a great opportunity for kids to experiment with different fruits and vegetables, creating unique and funny faces.

Tip: Be sure to let your guests know if there are nuts and peanut butter in the treats for anyone who may have allergies.

Step 4: Make the ghoulish kabobs.

Next, use skewers to make a Halloween kabob. Decorate marshmallows and different fruits and veggies (grapes or slices of apples, carrots, celery, mushrooms, or peppers) with fun faces and features.

Once decorated, skewer them together to create a delicious and spooky snack that’s perfect for Halloween parties or just a fun treat at home.

Step 5:  Make the Halloween dip.

For a Halloween-themed dip, create a silly octopus monster using a bell pepper. Cut the bell pepper in half horizontally. Use the bottom half to create the head, decorating the face with icing. The rest of the pepper can be sliced into strips to serve as the octopus’s legs. Lay the head and legs in a bowl of hummus or another dip of your choice so it looks like your monster is emerging from the dip.

Tip: See what other fun dip monsters your child can create using other veggies like carrots, cucumbers, or broccoli.

Step 6: Put it all together.

Now that all of your ghoulicious treats are ready, put them together on a platter and enjoy a fun snack with your friends or family.

These spooky snacks are perfect for serving at a Halloween bash or as a fun after-school treat. Your little ghouls and goblins will love showing off their creative culinary skills!

Halloween Party Hosting Tips for Kids:

Set Up a Craft Station: Create a fun and engaging space with a table full of craft supplies like markers, construction paper, glue, and scissors, where kids can make their own Halloween decorations while they snack. You can also include our Halloween coloring pages to inspire their creativity!

Themed Games: Organize simple Halloween-themed games like Pin the Hat on the Witch, Mini- Pumpkin Toss, or Halloween Bingo. This keeps the energy up and adds to the fun.

Kid-Friendly Snacks: Alongside your Ghoulicious Treats, provide a variety of healthy snacks and sweets to cater to different dietary needs. Clearly label all foods to indicate any allergens. For more fun snack ideas, check out these Halloween cheese treats or these pretzel monsters.

Halloween Music and Story Time: Create a spooky atmosphere with Halloween music. You can also have a story time session where kids gather around to listen to spooky (but age-appropriate) Halloween tales.

Goodie Bags: Prepare small goodie bags with Halloween-themed toys, stickers, and candies for kids to take home. This is a great way to end the party on a high note.

Keep it Simple and Fun: Remember, the goal is for everyone to have a good time. Keep activities simple and enjoyable, and be ready to adjust if something isn’t working out as planned.
