Several of the letter N crafts and activities listed below require the outline of a letter N. You can draw one yourself or find one in our free printable collection of letter N worksheets.
1. N is for Nighttime
Nestle bright shining stars inside a letter N in this celestial craft.
Required Materials
- blue and yellow construction paper
- scissors
- glue
- pencil
How To
Trace the letter N onto a sheet of dark blue construction paper and trim it out. Then, trim out 10 to 15 stars from the yellow construction paper. (A star-shaped paper punch makes this step even easier.) Next, have your child glue the stars inside the letter N. Work together to count how many stars fit inside your N.
2. N is for Narwhal
Kids will love creating this nifty narwhal!
Required Materials
- blue, white, yellow, and pink paper
- googly eyes
- scissors
- glue
- marker
- pencil
How To
Use a pencil to draw the shapes you’ll need: a larger blue teardrop shape with a fin at the bottom for the narwhal’s body; a small teardrop shape in white paper for its tummy; two longer semi-circles for flippers; a yellow skinny triangular shape for a horn; and two small pink circles for the narwhal’s cheeks. Then, cut them all out.
Lay the shapes out in front of your child, along with the picture of our narwhal, and work with child to assemble and glue them down. As the finishing touch, glue down the googly eyes and draw in a cute little mouth.
3. N is for Numbers
Fill the letter N with as many numbers as you can. Try saying the numbers as you add them in.
Required Materials
- Letter N outline
- number stickers
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter N. Give your child a sheet of number stickers, noting how the word numbers starts with the letter N. Ask your child to repeat the word, emphasizing the letter N sound.
Then, ask your child to fill the letter N with numbers. Challenge them to identify each number as they add it to their letter N.
Tip: This craft also works your child’s fine motor skills as they try peeling the stickers off the sheet and placing them inside the letter N.
4. N is for Necktie
Create this neat necktie with just markers and paper.
Required Materials
- pencil
- markers
- paper
How To
Use a pencil to draw the outline of a necktie, which is essentially a rectangular-shaped knot at the top and a two long lines that end in a point at the bottom.
Then, invite your child to trace over the pencil outline with a marker and use it to create stripes, polka dots, or anything else inside the necktie. Finally, use colored markers to fill in the design and give the necktie some personality.
Tip: Use the necktie from our Father’s Day coloring pages if you’d rather not draw one yourself.
5. N is for Noodle Necklace
This classic craft uses dried noodles to create a noteworthy necklace.
Required Materials
- string
- dried noodles
- tempura or acrylic paint
- paint brush
How To
Begin by having your child use tempura or acrylic paint to paint the dried noodles. Let the noodles dry completely. Flip the noodles over and paint the other side, allowing them to dry completely before moving on.
Have your child slip their colorful noodles onto the string, making sure they don’t slide off the other end as they work. Let them arrange the noodles to their likely or encourage them to arrange them in a pattern. As they work and say the word noodle, ask them what letter the word starts with and to demonstrate the sound it stands for.
6. N is for Newspaper
Fill every nook of a letter N with strips of newspaper.
Required Materials
- letter N outline
- newspaper
- blank paper
- glue
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter N. Grab a sheet of newspaper and ask your child to help you tear it into smaller pieces. Then, have them use those pieces to fill in the letter N, tearing the pieces up more to fit if needed. Once all the newspaper pieces are arranged inside the N, have your child glue them down.
Tip: Continue the letter N learning by giving your child a highlighter and asking them to mark the letter Ns they spot in the newspaper print.
7. N is for Nest
Create a nest for birds like nightingales and nuthatches in this cute letter N craft.
Required Materials
- several colors of construction paper
- scissors
- pencil
- glue
- googly eyes
How To
Use brown construction paper and a scissors to create a medium-sized semi circle, which will form the base of your nest. Then snip skinnier strips from the brown construction paper and glue them onto the semi-circle to add texture to the nest. You can also have
your child trim or tear brown packing paper or paper bags to create the nest.
Next, have your child pick a colored piece of paper for their bird. Trace the shape of a bird (similar to a tear-drop shape with curve at the end and a triangle for the tail) onto the paper with a pencil and cut it out. Have your child glue the bird and nest onto a piece of paper. Trim out a small orange piece for the beak and attach a googly eye to complete the bird.

8. N is for Nature
Nature provides the inspiration for this art activity. Depending on the season, draw or paint nature while outside or create a collage of items found out in nature, like sticks, leaves, and flowers.
Required Materials
- paper
- watercolor paints
- pain brush
- marker
How To
This simple activity draws children’s attention to the outdoors, using paint, crayons, or markers to draw a nature scene. If weather permits, complete this activity while outside, providing your child with a clipboard and bin to carry their supplies.
As your child works, ask them to notice other N words in nature. For example, do they see anything new, such as a flower about to bloom or a small baby leaf? What about something neat looking, such as a butterfly or a unique leaf shape? Do they hear anything noisy?
9. Letter N Paper Art
Neat squares of tissue paper turn the letter N into a mosaic of color.
Required Materials
- thicker white paper or card stock
- squares of colored tissue paper
- water
- paint brush
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter N. Have you child help to cut up several squares of tissue paper in different colors. Ask your child to arrange a few tissue paper squares inside the letter N. Then, have them paint over the squares with water, which will make them stick to the paper.
Your child may need to fold the tissue paper squares in half to fit in the tighter spaces of the letter N outline. Have your child continue this process until the letter N is filled in, noting how the colors of the tissue paper bleed together to form new hues.
Tip: You can also use a spray bottle filled with water to help with this activity.
10. Letter N Stick Build
Colorful popsicle sticks are a nice tool for constructing letter Ns.
Required Materials
- craft sticks
- paper
- glue
How To
Craft sticks provide children with a fun and easy way to practice creating letter shapes. If you don’t have colored craft sticks, simply have your child color in wooden sticks with markers before they begin letter building.
When your child is ready to create a few letter Ns, set out a pile of craft sticks for them to work with. See if they can recall the shape of the letter N to guide their building. If not, draw an uppercase letter N onto the sheet of paper to help them along.
