Learning the shape and sound of the letter T is more exciting with hands-on crafts and activities! These simple, engaging projects help preschoolers recognize and practice with the letter T through playful learning. Remember, while these ideas are designed for young children, they do require adult supervision.
Several of the letter T crafts and activities listed below require the outline of a letter T. You can draw one yourself or find one in our free printable collection of letter T worksheets.
1. T is for Tiger
Create a tame tiger with a long orange tail and two pointy ears in this cute letter T craft!
Required Materials
- orange construction paper
- scissors
- glue
- black marker or paint
How To
Use a pair of scissors to cut out the letter T from orange construction paper. Then, cut out two small orange triangles and a long orange tail. Have your child assemble the tiger and glue the pieces down. Finally, work with your child to draw stripes onto the T using a black marker or crayon. Draw a nose, smile, and the inner part of the tiger’s ears and glue on googly eyes for a finishing touch!
2. T is for Train
Make a trio of train cars that are pulled by an engine in this math-themed paper craft.
Required Materials
- several colors of paper
- scissors
- glue
- marker
How To
Begin by cutting out all the pieces of the train from construction paper. Cut out several rectangle shapes from colored construction paper to form the train cars. To make the front train engine, trim off a portion of the top of the rectangle and create angle cuts on the lower front portion.
Next, cut out a several wheels and small rectangles from the black construction paper to act as connectors for the train cars. Invite your child to help you assemble the trains and glue down all of the pieces except for the wheels. Then, write numbers on the train cars and ask your child to count out that number of wheels and glue them onto the corresponding train car!
3. T is for Tree
Transform the letter T into a towering tree with just paper, scissors, and glue!
Required Materials
- brown and green paper
- scissors
- glue
How To
Cut out the letter T from brown construction paper. This will be the tree’s trunk and branches. Next, cut out a cloud shape from green construction paper and glue it to the top portion of the letter T, forming the canopy of the tree. Add texture (or leaves) by crumpling up small bits of green paper and gluing them to the top of the tree.
4. T is for Truck
In no time you can create a trusty truck that travels across the letter T!
Required Materials
- letter T outline
- orange, yellow, white, and black paper
- scissors
- glue
How To
Print or draw out a letter T outline. To make the truck, cut out two rectangles from construction paper to form the truck’s body. To make it more realistic, cut angles and indents into these rectangles. Then cut out two black circles for the wheels.
Next, cut out two smaller white circles and a white square to form the inner part of the wheels and a window for the truck. Work with your child to assemble the truck and glue it down on top of the letter T.

5. T is for Toothbrush
This painting technique turns an old toothbrush into a unique painting tool!
Required Materials
- letter T outline
- old toothbrush
- acrylic paint
- paint tray or paper plate
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter T onto a piece of paper. Ask your child to pick out several paint colors and squirt a bit of each onto a paper plate or paint tray. Then, hand your child a toothbrush and invite them to use it to fill in their letter T outline with paint. The toothbrush will create lines and textures that are fun for kids to create!

6. T is for Tulip
Grow a garden with tall and tiny tulips in just minutes, then get in some practice writing or identifying uppercase and lowercase letter Ts.
Required Materials
- a variety of colored paper
- scissors
- glue
- marker
How To
Create the tulip flower head by cutting a U shape from construction paper and then cutting triangles onto the top. Make some tulips larger than the others.
Next, trim long green stems from construction paper and have your child help assemble the tulip garden. Then, depending on their skill level, have your child practice writing uppercase and/or lowercase letter Ts onto the tulips. Alternatively, you can write the Ts and ask your child to identify which is which.

7. T is for Turtle
In this tactile activity, kids can make a tiny turtle with playdough.
Required Materials
- white paper
- marker
- playdough
- googly eyes
How To
Let’s make a turtle! Start by forming five small balls and one larger ball. Have your child flatten the large ball to create the turtle’s body. Using a ruler or butter knife, add indents onto the turtle’s body to make it look like a shell. Then, around the body, flatten the small balls to make a head and four legs for your turtle. Add a small tail and googly eyes to complete its look!

8. T is for Triangle
The learning target for this craft is to grow an understanding of the letter T while teaching kids about shapes, specifically triangles.
Required Materials
- letter T outline
- colored paper or triangle stickers
- scissors
- glue
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter T. Then, work with your child to cut out small triangles from construction paper and glue them down, filling in the letter T with the triangles. For a more simple approach, have your child fill in the letter T with triangle stickers.

9. T is for Letter T Tape Hunt
This letter T scavenger hunt lets kids race around the house hunting down the letter T on pieces of tape!
Required Materials
- tape

How To
Cut out several pieces of masking tape or any other low tack tape (that won’t stick to surfaces too much). Write uppercase and lowercase letter Ts onto the tape pieces.
Stick them onto objects around the house that start with the letter T, such as a teapot, table, television, toys, and more. Then, challenge your child to go on a letter T hunt, searching for the letter T objects and letter T tape pieces. Help them remove any tape pieces that they can’t reach or that are on more delicate objects.
10. T is for Thumbprint
Take a T-focused approach to finger painting by using only your thumbs!
Required Materials

How To
Print out or draw the outline of a letter T onto a piece of white paper. Have your child select two-to-three colors of paint and add a bit of each to a paper plate or paint tray. Here comes the fun part–invite your child to fill in the letter T outline using only their thumbs! Be sure to have a sink or wet washcloth nearby to wash those thumbs off after.
