1. U is for Umbrella
Use a rainy day as inspiration for this letter U craft!
Required Materials
- colored aper

- craft or popsicle stick

How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter U and cut it out. Glue it on to a piece of colored paper that reminds you of a rainy day, such as shades of blue or gray. Then cut an umbrella shape from construction paper (a semi-circle with waves trimmed into one side) and glue it down to the paper.
Next, glue a popsicle stick right under it to form the umbrella’s handle. Finally, use a blue crayon or marker to draw raindrops around the umbrella.

2. U is for Unicorn
Create an utterly fantastic unicorn with just pipe cleaners and glitter!
Required Materials

- pipe cleaners
How To
Print out or draw an outline of the letter U. Add a semi-circle above the “arm” on the right side of the U to form the unicorn’s face. Next, have your child draw in four legs under the U and add the unicorn’s eyes and mouth.
Then, trim and glue down pipe cleaners, yarn, or construction paper strips in a variety of colors to form the unicorn’s mane and tail. Add a glitter horn as a final embellishment!

3. U is for United States
Celebrate the USA as you explore the letter U in this patriotic letter craft.
Required Materials
- letter U outline
- red paint
- blue construction paper
- paper plate or paint tray
- paint brush
- star stickers or paper shapes
- scissors
- glue
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter U. Glue a small square of blue paper to the upper left corner of the U (or paint it blue and let it dry). Then, have your child paint on red stripes and add white star stickers or glue down white paper stars onto the blue square.

4. Spot the Letter U Activity
Find the letter U in the mix of letters and put a spot on it with paint!
Required Materials

How To
Print or draw the outline of a letter U onto a sheet of paper. Fill in the letter U with other letters from the alphabet that your child is familiar with, making sure to include at least several of the letter U.
Then, ask your child to hunt for the letter U inside the letter U! Each time they spot a letter U, have them dab it with a bit of paint (or circle it with marker or a pencil).

5. U is for Underwater
Take a trip underwater with the letter U and a few sheets of construction paper!
Required Materials
- variety of colored construction paper

- googly eyes
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter U on to blue construction paper and cut it out. Then, have your child select 2-3 other colors of paper for their fish. Cut out several fish shapes from each color.
Glue the letter U and the fish onto a piece of blue paper. Use a black or blue marker to create wave shapes at the top of the page.

6. U is for Up
A bundle of balloons helps lift the letter U up in this craft!
Required Materials
- letter U outline
- several colors of paper
- scissors
- glue
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter U onto a piece of paper and cut it out. Glue the letter U onto another piece of paper that’s a different color. Then, work with your child to cut out circles or ovals to create balloons.
Have your child arrange the balloons to their liking and then glue them down. Finally, use a marker to draw the string connecting the balloons to the letter U, helping it rise upwards!
7. U is for Under Activity
Work on letter recognition skills while practicing the letter U sound as you explore the concept of “under.”
Required Materials
- paper
- pom poms or any small object
- markers
- glue
How To
Draw two grids onto a sheet of paper. Each grid should have one larger square on top with a smaller rectangle right under it. Write letters into each larger square of the grid, making sure to include two to three of the letter U.
Set your child up with small objects they can glue onto the paper, such as pom poms, cotton balls, or mini-marshmallows. Challenge your child to glue down a pom pom under each letter U that they see.
Tip: To keep it easier, just use stickers under each letter U.
8. U is for Unicycle
Teach your child about this unique bike while exploring the shape and sound of the letter U!
Required Materials
- letter U outline
- several colors of paper

How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter U and cut it out. Then cut out a small rectangle from red paper. Trim the corners of the rectangle so they’re rounded and trim out a small curve in the middle, mimicking a unicycle seat. Finally, cut out two circles–one from black paper and one slightly smaller from white paper.
Work with your child to create spokes on the white circle, drawing a black dot in the center with lines coming off of it. Then, arrange the pieces of the wheel and unicycle wheel onto the letter U and glue them down.
9. U is for Unique Painting
Gently blow paint across a letter U in this unusual painting technique!
Required Materials
- letter U outline
- thick paper or card stock
- paint
- paint brushes
- paper plate
- straw
How To
Draw or print out the outline of a letter U. Ask your child to select two-to-three paint colors and add a bit of each one to a paper plate. Thin out the paint by adding a bit of water to each one and stirring it around.
Use paint brushes to drop small blob of paint around the letter U outline. Then, gently blow through the straw to carefully move the paint around the letter U. We recommend doing this craft outdoors or in a space where paint can’t splatter onto anything important.
