How To Create a Suncatcher With Household Items

Do you love the calming beauty of suncatchers? Imagine one in the shape of a cute turtle, shimmering in the sunlight! At ABCmouse, we believe in harnessing the magic of creativity and turning ordinary household items into beautiful crafts.

Here’s how you can create your own turtle-shaped suncatcher using items you might already have at home.

What You’ll Need to Create a Suncatcher:

  • Glue
  • Tissue paper
  • A paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Construction paper

Instructions for Making Your Suncatcher:

Step 1: Prepare the template

A black sheet of paper with an outline of a fish being drawn on it.

Sketch an animal shape (like a turtle or a fish) on a piece of black paper.

Then cut out the shape and the inside to create an outline. This will be your template.

Step 2: Get colorful

Cut your tissue paper into small pieces.

Stack them on top of each other to make the process a little faster.

Step 3: Color your animal

Now comes the fun part! Use your paint brush to gently brush glue along the outline of your animal.

Start pasting the tissue paper to the outside of your animal, then work your way towards the inside, pasting and gluing tissue paper on until the shape is filled in.

Step 4: It’s all in the details

Once your animal is colored and dry, go ahead and add details like eyes, nose, and a mouth.

Step 5 (Optional): Add a string or ribbon

Thread a piece of string or ribbon through a hole that you place at the top of your suncatcher, and tie a knot at the end.

Make sure the string is long enough so that your suncatcher can hang freely in front of a window.

Step 6: Find the Perfect Spot

Hang your suncatcher in a window where it will catch the sunlight.

Watch as it casts colorful reflections around the room!

Creating a suncatcher is a delightful way to add a touch of nature and color to your space. Not only is it a fun craft activity, but it also teaches kids about upcycling and reusing household items.

Remember, creativity has no bounds, so don’t be afraid to experiment and make your suncatcher uniquely yours!
