Spelling in Kindergarten
Kindergarteners work on spelling simple words they can sound out using the basics of phonics. They often learn to spell their own name and those of their friends or family members, as well as numbers (one, two, three, etc.). Most kindergarten spelling words are one syllable, but some high-frequency spelling words include two syllables, like “about” or “over.” At this age, it’s fun to keep a running list of all the words young learners have mastered, so they can see their skills grow day by day.
