Color by Sight Word Worksheets for Second Graders (Free PDF Printables)
Help your second grader become more comfortable with high-frequency words (also known as sight words), which are the words that appear most often in text. Our collection of sight word worksheets is organized into three levels of difficulty, with each level introducing more words to identify and more intricate shapes to color.
While working through these sight word worksheets, children will use the Sight Word Color Key on each page to guide their coloring. This key directs them to use a specific color for each sight word, gradually revealing a picture as they add color to it. As your child gets more familiar with the high-frequency words in the beginner level of worksheets, have them move on to the more difficult levels.
Overview of the Color-by-Sight Word Worksheets
Children will practice with a wide variety of words, ranging from potential review words like off and tell, to more challenging words like around and sentence.
Our Beginner level worksheets use several high-frequency words to help guide your child in coloring in a picture. These worksheets feature simpler images and fewer words.
Our Challenge Color by Sight Words Worksheets feature more high-frequency words and slightly more detailed drawings for your child to color.
The Super Challenge level of our Color by Sight Words Worksheets use a higher volume of second grade high-frequency words and a more intricate image.

Activities to Extend Learning with the Color-by-Sight Word Worksheets
As your child practices their word recognition skills with our sight word worksheets, consider trying these ideas to help enhance learning:
⭐ Sight Word Poem
Encourage children to use the sight words from one worksheet to create a poem. Then have them draw a picture to accompany their poem.
⭐ Sight Word Spelling
Do some sight word spelling practice with the sight word worksheets and letter tiles. Read off the words on your child’s sight word worksheets and have them spell the word out with letter tiles or with pencil and paper.
⭐ Sight Word Fill-in-the-Blank
Write a short story built around the sight words on one of the sight word worksheets. However, instead of writing the sight words in, leave a blank space and add the sight word to a list at the bottom of the page. Invite your child to fill in the blank spaces of your story by picking words from the sight word list you created.
