Activities to Extend Learning with the Consonant Blends Worksheets
Recommended for: Second Graders
⭐ Blend Hunt
After completing their consonant blend worksheets, work with your child to find those letter blends in other reading materials, such as books or magazines or even on boxes and billboards.
⭐ ‘I Spy’ with Blends
Play a version of “I Spy” focusing on objects that start with specific consonant blends. For example, “I spy with my little eye, something that starts with ‘spl’.” Your child then tries to figure out and find the object. Add to the challenge by setting a time limit for finding the object.
⭐ Letter Tile Blends
Try this activity with magnetic alphabet letters, letter tiles, or even letters you write on scraps of paper. When your child is done with their worksheets, challenge them to re-create the consonant blends they worked with using the letter tiles. Then invite them to create as many words as possible by adding other letters to the blends.
