Fun Learning Activities with Punctuation & Sentences
⭐ Punctuation Hunt
Invite your child to go on a hunt around your home to find punctuation marks in books, magazines, boxes, bags, or signs. When they find a period, question mark, or exclamation point, ask them to say the sentence out loud and identify what type of sentence it is.
⭐ Sentence Sorting Game
Write different types of sentences on separate strips of paper (statements, questions, commands, exclamations). Mix them up and then sort them into categories based on the punctuation marks they need or the type of sentence they are.
⭐ Create a Sentence Puzzle
Write a sentence on a strip of paper and cut it into words. Mix the words up and challenge your child to put the sentence back together correctly. You can also try this with several different sentences that have been cut up, then challenge your child to create entirely new sentences with the various words they see. Don’t forget to add the correct punctuation mark at the end!
