Words That Start with the Letter V for Kids

Simple Preschool Letter V Words
☐ vase: a container used to hold flowers. “She put fresh flowers in the vase.”
☐ vent: an opening that allows air, gas, or liquid to pass out of or into a space. “The kitchen has a vent to remove heat and smells from cooking.”
☐ very: a lot. “The weather is very hot today.”
☐ vest: a sleeveless garment worn over a shirt. “He wore a vest with his suit.”
Kindergarten Letter V Words
☐ vast: very large in size or amount. “The desert is vast and filled with sand.”
☐ veil: a piece of fine material worn to cover the face. “The bride wore a veil over her face on her wedding day.”
☐ verse: a line of poetry or a section of a song. “She wrote a verse for the song.”
☐ view: the ability to see something. “The view from the mountain is spectacular.”
☐ visit: to go and spend time with someone. “They went to visit their grandparents.”
☐ voice: the sound that people make when they speak or sing. “Her voice is very calming to hear.”
Elementary Letter V Words
☐ vacation: a period of time for rest and relaxation. “They went on vacation to the beach.”
☐ valid: based on truth or reason. “His argument was valid and well researched.”
☐ value: the importance or worth of something. “He taught them the value of working hard.”
☐ various: different kinds. “The store sells various types of candy.”
☐ vein: a tube in the body that carries blood to the heart. “The doctor examined the vein in his arm.”
☐ vendor: a person or company offering something for sale. “The vendor sold fresh fruits at the market.”
☐ verdict: a decision made by a judge or jury during a court case. “The jury delivered a guilty verdict.”
☐ version: a form of something that’s been changed or updated from an earlier form. “He downloaded the latest version of the software.”
☐ vessel: a ship or large boat. “The vessel sailed across the ocean.”
☐ victory: an act of defeating an opponent. “They celebrated their victory in the volleyball game.”
☐ village: a small community or group of houses. “They live in a quiet village.”
☐ villain: the bad person in a story or movie; a criminal. “The movie was about a villain getting caught for their crimes.”

☐ vanilla: a flavoring of food that comes from a vanilla plant and is often used in desserts. “She added vanilla to the cake batter.”
☐ vegetable: a plant or part of a plant used as food. “She loves to eat the vegetables grown in her garden.”
☐ vermicelli: a type of pasta similar to spaghetti. “She made a vermicelli dish with tomato sauce.”
☐ vichyssoise: a thick, creamy soup made of potatoes, leeks, and cream. “They served vichyssoise as a starter.”

Tips for Teaching Letter V Words
- Grab a Mirror
To make the letter V sound, children will need to place their top teeth against the inside of their lower lip. It can be helpful for children to watch this in the mirror. You may also need to remind them that they’re not just pushing air through their teeth when making the letter V sound–they need to also make a sound in their throats.
- Switch Between F and V
The letter F sound and letter V sound require children to move their mouths in very similar ways. Help them learn the difference in making these two sounds by switching between the letter F sound and letter V sound, saying words like frog and then vroom.
- Use Multiple Teaching Approaches
Introducing a new letter sound in a variety of ways can help children better understand and get familiar with it. Combine our list of letter V words with the letter V song, worksheets, and activities to approach this new letter sound in many different ways.
